INTENSIVE INTERVENTION PROGRAMS

PosAbility’s Intensive Program is a unique customised and individualised learning program for children with complex needs. Originally designed for children with specific learning difficulties that are at least two years behind in literacy and/or learning, we are now incorporating intensive speech and language therapy and occupational therapy services into our program.

Children attend the centre for four days per week, 2 – 3 hours each day within school time. The program is created by a team of special educators and therapists with extensive experience in program development and intervention. The intensive Program is an effective way to give your child a boost without the pressures of attending therapy outside of school hours.

Drawing on current scientific research and evidence-based intervention programs and methods, our intensive program is designed for;

•Children from 7-16 years of age
•Children who are generally at least two years behind age expected levels
•Children that may have plateaued with current school intervention and require a more intensive approach
•The goal of our program is to provide one to two terms of intensive intervention followed by any maintenance intervention depending on an individual’s profile and program. We work closely with schools to transition the child to and from the intensive program to ensure generalisation and continuation of support.

In addition to literacy and numeracy skills, we are now able to incorporate psychology, speech and language and occupational therapy intervention as part of the child’s program as necessary.

The program is customised based on each child’s needs, but may cover the following areas;

•Phonological awareness
•Reading, including systematic phonics instruction
•Spelling
•Comprehension
•Receptive and expressive language
•Handwriting
•Fine and/or gross motor coordination
•Counselling support for anxiety or self-esteem
•Social skills
