SARAH HOPKINS

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

Sarah has a diverse range of clinical and educational experience in working with children and their families as a Special Education teacher and Physiotherapist.

Masters of Special Education at Macquarie University in 2019, after commencing at PosAbility early in 2017.

Sarah has worked at PosAbility for four years as a Special Education Consultant, with a particular interest in assessing the educational needs and creating individualised programs for children with Specific Learning Disorders and Difficulties, including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and ADHD.

Prior to joining PosAbility, Sarah spent 11 years as a physiotherapist working across multiple private practices and hospitals in Sydney and London.  In this time, she specialised in hand therapy, musculoskeletal injuries in adults and developmental issues in children.  This period included time spent outside clinical practice as a rehabilitation consultant, focused on workplace assessments and return to work programs for injured and disabled workers.

After taking time out of the workforce to have her three boys, Sarah developed a keen interest in learning disorders.  This led to her returning to university to complete a Masters of Special Education at Macquarie University, which provided further depth to her knowledge and allowed Sarah to combine her clinical and educational experience to provide a holistic approach in support of her students’ academic needs. In addition to her university training, Sarah has undergone ongoing professional development at PosAbility and through additional courses, such as Singapore Maths and Talk for Writing.

At PosAbility, Sarah works as a Special Education Consultant and Intensive Program Manager with students from Kindergarten to Year 10 in literacy and numeracy; conducting assessment and planning and delivering customised reading, spelling, writing and Mathematics interventions for children with a range of additional needs. In addition to planning and implementing targeted literacy and numeracy intervention programs, Sarah works with upper primary and high school students to develop study skills and positive work habits to assist them in generalising their skills to achieve to their potential on curriculum-based tasks.
