CARLYNN YONG

EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

Carlynn has over a decade of experience working as a high school teacher and is a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. She has worked with a diverse range of learners, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, attention deficit disorders and anxiety disorders, as well as gifted and talented students.

Prior to joining PosAbility, Carlynn worked as a high school teacher in comprehensive and selective schools for eleven years, where she designed, coordinated and led Social Sciences programs for students from a diverse range of backgrounds. During this time, she gained extensive knowledge and experience in implementing evidence-based strategies that cater for individual literacy needs, and built a reputation as a highly respected teacher and mentor for senior students. Carlynn’s achievements as a teacher have been recognised by her students and the community through the nomination of multiple awards, including the Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People Children’s Week Teacher Award and the Northern Beaches Secondary College Staff and Community Recognition Award.

Carlynn is also a registered counsellor and member of the Australian Counselling Association, who is trained in a range of interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In addition, she is an accredited Cool Kids provider and a Peaceful Kids and Peaceful Teens facilitator. She has a special interest in supporting children and adolescents to develop a growth mindset in order to foster resilience and flexibility. Ultimately, Carlynn is passionate about harnessing both her counselling and teaching skills to make a positive contribution to the social and emotional wellbeing of young people.
