PosAbility Australia is a unique educational and psychology clinic combining the knowledge and skills of special educators, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists and other child therapists. PosAbility offers a range of educational services for pre-school, school aged and adolescents to raise their ability to learn to their highest potential. The staff is a group of enthusiastic and passionate professionals who aim to support children through evidence-based methods and positive reinforcement to maximise their natural abilities.

OUR STORY

PosAbility has been helping families since 2013 with the aim to maximise a child’s ability to LEARN to their potential, LIVE to the fullest and GROW to be all they can be with the long term goal of opening Australia’s first school for children with Specific Learning Difficulties.

It was initially formed as a partnership between five friends and colleagues; Katrina Sheraton-Yu, Georgia Callaghan, Margrit Frischknecht, Glenys O’Riley and Kathryn Lawrenson, that had previously studied or worked together at the Macquarie University Special Education Centre. Coming from diverse backgrounds, including schools, university clinics and hospital settings, there was a wide referral network meaning the services were in great demand. Word of mouth saw the business grow and soon the team grew.Towards the end of 2015, current Director, Occupational Therapist and Specific Learning Difficulties tutor and assessor, Hayley Smith, returned from London with an amazing skill set and unique experience in a specialised school in London for children with specific learning difficulties. Her common interests, drive and passion for helping children brought her to connect with PosAbility through a mutual friend and quickly, Hayley become part of the future of PosAbility.

PosAbility is now in its eighth year and we are continuing to work towards our goal of opening the school. In the meantime, we continue to focus on providing high quality services for 300 or more students each week. We now have over 20 staff and the clinic is an environment of shared enthusiasm and enjoyment for helping children with learning difficulties and their families.
